This is a forerunning study of the Word.
Enoch and Elijah both went up into Heaven.
-
Enoch learned how to go up regularly for a temporary stay.
-
Then he went for a permanent stay.
-
Elijah went one time for a permanent stay.
Here are the scriptures describing when each went up permanently.
“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” Genesis 5:24
“And it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.” 2 Kings 2:1
What is the significance of Enoch?
-
Enoch is the 7th generation from Adam.
-
7 is the number of completion / perfection / maturity.
-
When we come to completion / perfection / maturity we can expect to do what Enoch did.
What is the significance of Enoch and Elijah?
-
Jesus said of Elijah, “Elijah comes and restores all things.”
-
He also said that John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah.
-
We restore all things in the spirit and power of Elijah.
-
One of the things that we will restore is being taken bodily up into Heaven by God.
In the case of Enoch we see a prerequisite to being taken.
In the case of Elijah we see how God took him.
Now, let’s apply the Law of First Mention to the word “whirlwind”.
Now, let’s look at the other uses of the word “whirlwind’ in scripture.
It is used mostly to describe a destructive tornado coming from the South.
The whirlwind does not take the righteous to death.
Then we have the positive uses of the word “whirlwind”.
-
The LORD took Elijah up to Heaven in a whirlwind.
-
The LORD answered Job from the whirlwind.
-
The LORD came to Ezekiel in a whirlwind.
The LORD came to Ezekiel in a whirlwind.
-
This whirlwind came from the North.
-
The whirlwinds that destroy the wicked come from the South.
-
It came with fire: “a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself”.
-
And 4 living creatures with the 4 faces of God.
-
There was a Throne in the midst of what Ezekiel saw with One sitting on that Throne.
-
The One sitting on the Throne spoke to him.
-
See Ezekiel 1 – 3 for the full description.
-
This scripture is a door to encounter.
After the LORD spoke to Ezekiel the Spirit lifted him up and took him away.
The LORD came to Ezekiel in a whirlwind and took him.
Being “taken” and whirlwinds connect 3 Men in White Linen.
